M&E design and installation to machine engineering workshop and offices

BTU was appointed by BAE Surface Ships to deliver a complex major project to centralise 5 separate warship support workshops and offices into one. The workshop machines varied in size and scope and required a complex array of services comprising, power, compressed air, specialist gases, local extract ventilation, water, contaminated waste disposal and data, together with electrical safety interlocks.

The manufacturing design office along wise the work shop required a full office mechanical and electrical services replacement for a fully AC professional office environment for up to 160 staff with a full suite of building services requirements.

The most relevant tasks performed included:
Development of a project team comprising, mechanical design engineer, electrical design engineer, machine engineering surveyors, design co-ordinators and effective project management together with robust control of the design, work schedule, commissioning and test plans.
Working at height at 15m above floor level for significant elements of the M & E services.
Working with multiple stakeholders, MOD, BAE operations, BAE engineering, BAE PURE, BAE SHE.
Co-ordination of multiple supply chain partners.
Work sequencing for a very challenging program 26 weeks for 3.1m.
Significant use of cranes for machine movement and HVAC component delivery and positioning.
